Senior Mechanical Engineer - Gearbox Specialist | Clipper Windpower, Inc. | Carpinteria, CA
SUMMARY:
Clipper Windpower has a reputation for innovative mechanical design on
wind turbines. This position is for a full time Mechanical Design
Engineer to join the Mechanical Engineering Department in our office in
Carpinteria. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in
becoming a wind turbine drivetrain Specialist.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Does the detail ProEngineer design drafting of production wind turbine
gearboxes according to schedules under the supervision of a Senior
Design Engineer
- Does the detail design of conceptual gearboxes under the supervision
of R& D Engineers
- Assumes responsibility for the release of drawings, change notices,
and bill of materials to manufacturing production
- Assumes responsibility for uploading ProE drawings and models into
Windchill PDM Link
- Actively participates in the creation of ProE Windchill parts library
following Clipper drafting standards
- Works effectively with outside expert consultants/vendors (both for
product development and due diligence purposes)
- Participates in weekly Change Control Board (CCB) reviews and
generates engineering document change notices (ECN)
- Dispositions daily gearbox Non-Conformance Material Reports (NCMR)
- Submits weekly work status reports to Supervisor
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Strong proficiency in Pro-Engineer Wildfire 3.0
- Strong knowledge of GDT Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5M-1994
- Stack-up tolerance analysis
- Strong communication and organizational skills are required
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced team environment
- Traveling to manufacturing site and turbine installation sites as required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Working knowledge of wind turbine drivetrains or closely related heavy
machinery
- Material knowledge of ductile iron castings, iron forgings and steel
machined parts
- Experience in Windchill PDMLink 8.0 or ProIntralink
- Knowledge of gears, shafts, housings, bearings manufacturing
tolerances
- Bearing configurations and preload assembly procedures
